COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES (CDS)

Combined Defence Services or CDS examination is conducted to recruit candidates in the Indian Armed forces. Aspirants willing to become a part of Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Officers Training Academy, and Indian Air Force Academy can apply for the CDS exam and chase their dream career, like NDA exam, Combined Defence Services Examination is conducted twice a year UPSC.

 

Candidates will be called for Service Selection Board (SSB) after qualifying CDS exam and after that, successful candidates will be appointed with their respective training academies.

In general, the notification for CDS examination is released in the month of October and June. And, the exam is conducted in the month of April and September.

Exam:- CDS (I & II)

Forms:- October and June

Exam:- February and November

Age limit:- 19 to 24 years

Educational Qualifications:
  • For Indian Military Academy/Officer’s training academy: - Degree from a recognized university or equivalent

  • For Indian Naval Academy: - Degree in Engineering from a recognized university/ institution

  • For Airforce Academy: - Degree of a recognized University with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or Bachelor of Engineering

Age Criteria:
  • For IMA- unmarried male candidates with age between 19 to 24 years only are eligible.

  • For Indian Naval Academy- unmarried male candidates with age between 19 to 22 years only are eligible.

  • For Air Force Academy: - 19 to 23 years (Upper Age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 years.) only are eligible.

  • For officer’s Training Academy- (SSC Course for men) Male candidates (married or unmarried) having age between 19 to 25 years only are eligible.

  • For officer’ s Training Academy- (SSC Women Non- Technical Course) Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible; they should have age between 19 to 25 years.

CDS Exam Pattern:

  • CDS exam has been divided into various parts including written examination, interview, and personality test.

  • CDS exam will be organized in offline mode where applicants need to mark their answers on an OMR sheet

  • CDS exam papers include multiple choice objective type questions only

  • CDS exam papers for General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be in Hindi and English language

  • Negative marking of one-third of the marks assigned to a specific question is applicable in the Objective Type Question Papers

  • If candidates give multiple answers, it will be considered wrong with the penalty of negative marking

  • No electronic or communication device including mobile phones, calculator, and Bluetooth are allowed in the examination hall

 

Selection Procedure:​

  • The candidates will be provided admission to INA, IMA, Air Force Academy, and Officers’ Training Academy through Written Examination, Personality Test, and Interview

  • The candidates will be placed in the order of merit on the basis of the total marks secured by them in the written examination and in the SSB tests. The final selection will be made in order of merit subject to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects and the number of vacancies available
